Pop singer accused of being no angel

A German pop singer accused of causing grievous bodily harm after allegedly having unprotected sex despite knowing she was HIV-positive was released yesterday after 10 days in custody, a court official said.

Nadja Benaissa, 26, a member of German girl band No Angels, was arrested on April 11. Prosecutors said she was suspected of having unprotected sex with three men between 2004 and 2006 without informing them first that she was infected. One of the men later tested positive, apparently as a result, they said.

Darmstadt administrative court vice president Albrecht Simon said the court had ordered Benaissa's release under certain conditions, but did not specify what those conditions were.

Benaissa joined No Angels in 2000 through the TV casting show "Popstars." The group sold more than 5 million albums before breaking up in 2003.

Benaissa helped reform the group in 2007 with three other members. The group represented Germany in last year's Eurovision song contest.
