Romney says not to run for 2016 presidential election
FORMER Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney told supporters Friday that he will not run for president in 2016.
"After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I've decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, said during a conference call.
Earlier this month, the former Massachusetts governor hinted renewed interest in pursuing another presidential bid, saying he was "seriously considering running again."
It is reported that Romney had been working to solidify support with supporters and staffers that backed him in previous races, but several top donors and strategists were running to support Jeb Bush, second son of former President George H.W. Bush and younger brother of former President George W. Bush.
