ROUNDUP: Car bomb kills 4 Taliban, wounds 7, Taliban commander detained
In the militancy-ridden Afghanistan, an explosive-laden car designed by Taliban militants to target government facilities went off in Taliban former stronghold southern Helmand province killing four insurgents on the spot and wounding seven others on Saturday, provincial police chief Juma Gul Humat confirmed.
"A group of Taliban militants driving an explosive-laden car to detonate it against government facilities in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah but the car exploded accidentally in Mukhtar Qala area outside the provincial capital at around 11:00 a.m. local time today killing four insurgents on the spot and injuring seven others," Humat told Xinhua.
There were no casualties on the security personnel and the civilians, the official asserted.
However, he did not provide more details, adding investigation has been initiated into the case.
Taliban militants fighting the government and largely relying on suicide and roadside bombings have yet to make comment.
In another incident, also in Helmand province, the police personnel arrested a Taliban commander a day earlier on Friday, Humat added.
"A Taliban commander who was attempting to target the police chief of Nad Ali district, Helmand province, was captured by police on Friday," Humat told Xinhua.
Without revealing the name of the arrested Taliban commander, the official said investigation is underway to extract essential information about Taliban network and its activities in Helmand province.
