Russian mine blast toll rises to 11
The death toll from a coal mine blast in Russia's Siberian region last night has risen to 11, the Itar-Tass news agency reported today citing the Emergency Situations Ministry.
The ministry said 41 people were injured and dozens more remained trapped underground in the Raspadskaya coal mine in Russia's west Siberian region of Kemerovo.
Earlier Sunday, a second explosion cut off contact with 20 rescuers working underground and forced authorities to suspend the rescue operation, Itar-Tass said.
