Russia has sent hundreds of paratroopers to Kyrgyzstan to protect its military facilities.
Interfax news agency said a battalion of paratroopers had arrived in Kant yesterday.
"The mission of the force that has landed is to reinforce the defence of Russian military facilities and ensure security of military servicemen and families," a source was quoted as saying.
A Kyrgyz defence ministry source confirmed the troops had landed.
