S. African government lambasts Cape Town mayor over Nobel laureates summit

THE South African government on Friday lambasted Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille for blaming the cancellation of the 14th World Summit of Nobel Laureates on the government.

"We take strong exception to the utterances of the Mayor of Cape Town which have cast aspersions on the integrity of the South African government and the country," presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

On Thursday, De Lille announced the cancellation of the summit, originally scheduled for October 13-15 in Cape Town, because the government refused to grant entry visa to the Dalai Lama.
