Sadler's Wells dancer killed in crash on way to performance

The lead ballet dancer of the current show at London's prestigious Sadler's Wells has been killed in a traffic accident as he rode his motorcycle to the performance.

Police say Jonathan Ollivier died following a collision with a car in London on Sunday. The driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Ollivier, 38, was a principal dancer for Matthew Bourne's company, New Adventures, and was starring in "The Car Man." He had also performed two seasons as the Swan in Bourne's groundbreaking "Swan Lake."

The ballet, also starring Simon Williams, was staged at Shanghai Culture Square for 13 performances from September 25 to October 5 last year.

Bourne described Ollivier Monday as "one of the most charismatic and powerful dancers of his generation."

Ollivier trained at the Rambert School of Dance and had been a principal dancer at Cape Town Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre and the Alberta Ballet.
