Sarkozy could make run-off vote in 2012
FRENCH President Nicolas Sarkozy could make it into the second, run-off round of France's presidential election next year, a survey showed today.
Recent polls have indicated that Sarkozy, whose popularity ratings are close to record lows a year from the election, risked elimination in the first round by the far right.
The new survey, by pollsters CSA for BFM-TV and RMC radio showed Sarkozy could knock far-right leader Marine Le Pen out of the running in the first round if Socialist Party heavyweights Martine Aubry or Francois Hollande stood on the left.
However, the poll indicated that if IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn ran for the Socialist Party, he would secure 33 percent of the vote in the first round, leaving Le Pen and Sarkozy neck-and-neck with 18 percent.
The poll of 1,004 people was taken between March 28 and 29.
