Sex charge is withdrawn
PROSECUTORS have dropped a sexual assault charge against a woman in Omaha, Nebraska, after her teenage son recanted allegations that she had forced him to have sex with her every night, a prosecutor said on Friday.
The boy originally said he was abused by his mother when he was in seventh and eighth grades.
Deputy Douglas County Attorney Molly Smith said the boy recanted his allegation and she didn't have enough evidence to continue without his testimony. She declined to provide details of the boy's recantation.
The charge against the now 42-year-old woman was dropped on August 9. Smith said she has no plans to refile and that she believed the investigation was over.
The AP is not identifying the boy's parents to protect his identity as a possible victim of sexual assault.
The mother has since moved to Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
The boy's father said his son is now 16 and has lived with him since he finished eighth grade.
