Ship collision in Russia kills four, injures 35

Four people died and 35 others were injured when a passenger ship collided with a barge in Russia's Omsk Region today, the Emergency Situations Ministry said.

Local media said the accident occurred on the Irtysh River in the Leninsky district of Omsk at 10:55am Moscow time (0655 GMT). "There were 56 passengers and four crewmembers on board the ship," ministry spokesperson Irina Rossius told the Interfax news agency.

Omsk's emergency department spokesman Alexei Puryshev said earlier that three people fell overboard and were badly injured.

The ship was holed after the collision and the people were being evacuated from the ship to freighters.
