Spider-Man to spin movie web in 3D
WHEN the new "Spider-Man" movie lands in theaters in two years, on-screen crooks won't be the only ones getting caught in the comic book crime fighter's web, audiences may just feel the sticky strands, too.
Film studio Columbia Pictures yesterday said the new "Spider-Man" film, which will be the fourth in the series and still does not have a title, will be shown in 3D and begin its run in theaters on July 3, 2012.
The "Spider-Man" franchise is among the most lucrative in Hollywood, having sold nearly $2.5 billion worth of tickets worldwide for its three previous movies.
For the fourth film, Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have hired a new director, Marc Webb, to replace Sam Raimi and will get a new actor other than Tobey Maguire to play the role of Peter Parker, who transforms into the crime fighter.
The studios promise a "new chapter" in the movie that takes audiences back to when Parker was merely a high school kid.
