Suspected militants kill 5 security men in NW Pakistan

SUSPECTED militants attacked a checkpoint in a tribal region early today in northwest Pakistan and killed five security personnel, police said.
Armed militants fired with automatic weapons at the post Bara area of Khyber Agency and fled, they said.
Three paramilitary soldiers and two policemen were killed and several injured.
The security personnel returned fire, which prompted exchange of fire but no one was killed from the militants.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Witnesses said that blaze erupted in the checkpoint after the attack.
Several militant groups including the Tehriki Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are active in Khyber agency and they often attack security forces. The security forces conducted major operation against a militant group Lashkar-e-Islam in the region last year and expelled most of them from Bara area.
Oil tankers and trucks carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan also come under attack in Khyber agency.
