Suspected pirates board Singapore tanker
THE Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said yesterday evening that it has received report that suspected pirates have boarded a Singapore-registered chemical tanker MT Gemini off Kenya coast.
A distress alert was received at about 11:50 am Singapore time (0350 GMT) yesterday, the authority said in a statement.
The authority said there were 25 crew members on board the vessel.
The tanker was at approximately 120 nautical miles (222 kilometers) from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania at the time of the incident. The vessel was reported to be on its way from Kuala Tanjung, Indonesia to Mombasa, Kenya, the statement said.
The authority said it is working with relevant government agencies and the ship manager Glory Ship Management.
