Switzerland has highest density of Michelin stars in Europe: media
WITH 117 Swiss restaurants awarded at least one of the coveted Michelin stars, the confederation boasts the highest density of Michelin stars in Europe, Swissinfo reported Wednesday.
Based on latest Michelin Guide 2017 results, Swissinfo said that this represents a 20 percent increase from five years ago.
Latest rankings show that three Swiss culinary establishments boast three Michelin stars, no small feat considering that only around 100 restaurants around the world are included in this category.
Japan tops the list of the number of three-starred restaurants, followed by France and the United States, it reported.
The three highly-distinguished Swiss eateries are located in Basel, canton Vaud and canton Graubuenden.
A further 19 Swiss restaurants are two-starred, while 95 display one Michelin star, 12 of which are included in the guide for the first time, Swissinfo indicated.
