Teacher suspended for showing video

A Montreal teacher was suspended for showing high school students a video that police believe shows the slaying and dismembering of a Chinese student, authorities said on Wednesday.

The teacher at Cavelier-De Lasalle, a high school in southern Montreal, showed the video to a class of mainly 15 year-olds on June 4, the school board said. That was the day Luka Rocco Magnotta, dubbed the "Canadian Psycho," was arrested in Berlin after fleeing Canada.

The school board released a statement calling the teacher's behavior inappropriate and offensive. He was immediately suspended after a traumatized student informed the school's vice-principal. Psychological counseling was offered to students in the class, the board said.
