Thai flood death toll hits 224

A total of 224 people were confirmed dead and two people were missing as the floods have inundated upper part of the country for nearly two months, according to an official report today.
The floods, caused by heavy rainfall, still prevail in 25 provinces, mostly in the northern, northeastern and central part of the country.
The report said 47 main highways in 12 provinces were flooded and cannot be passed and some north-bound train services were cancelled.
Altogether more than 1.9 million people and about 12 million square meters of farmland were affected by the floods, it said.
Moreover, the Meteorological Department warned today widespread scattered rain are expected as the strong southwest monsoon is prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
There will also be strong wind-generated 2 to 3-metre-high waves in the Andaman Sea. The department also said the Nalgae tropical storm is moving westward with a speed of ten kilometers per hour and it is expected that the storm would arrive in the upper part of Vietnam tomorrow.
People are advised to closely follow weather reports during this period as the influence of Nalgae could cause heavy rain in the northern and northeastern parts of Thailand.
