Thai government orders army to prepare armored cars
THAILAND'S government has ordered the army to prepare armored cars in a move to retake areas having been occupied by the anti-government protesters in central Bangkok, an army spokesman said today, Thai News Agency reported.
The armored cars will protect police and army personnel from attacks by the anti-government protesters, who could be armed, said Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situations spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd.
Meanwhile, there is no army personnel inside the state-run hospital Chulalongkorn Hospital in central Bangkok as claimed by the protesters, said Col Sansern.
The protesters on the night of April 29 stormed into the hospital to search for troops, but found none.
The anti-government rally has been held from March 12 and the protesters are now gathering at the Rathchaprasong Intersection -- their main rally site.
They have demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to "immediately" dissolve the lower House of parliament and hold a new general election.
