Thai govt calls on protesters to immediately surrender
AN adviser to Thailand's prime minister called on "red shirt" protesters to surrender today as troops broke through their barricade and gunfighting erupted in central Bangkok.
"The protest must end immediately and leaders must surrender and stop the violence," chief negotiator Korbsak Sabhavasu, a senior aide to the prime minister, told local media.
Thai troops and armoured vehicles broke through barricades of tyres and staves today in a fresh offensive to evict thousands of anti-government protesteres from their fortified camp in central Bangkok, witnesses said.
