Thailand reports 2nd MERS case
THAILAND'S public health ministry said Sunday that the country had detected a second case of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
The patient, a 71-year-old Oman man, is now being quarantined at an infectious diseases institute in central Nonthaburi province, Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn was quoted by the Nation newspaper as saying.
The patient arrived in Thailand on Friday, Piyasakol said, adding the health authorities are searching for 37 people who had direct contact with him, including medical staff, hotel staff and a taxi driver.
The infectee is now in stable condition, and his children are also being quarantined at the institute, according to the minister.
Last June, Thailand confirmed its first MERS case, a 75-year-old man also from Oman, who made a full recovery later.
