TOP directors with films at Cannes have signed a petition in support of Roman Polanski, who is under house arrest in Switzerland. Signatories include Jean-Luc Godard, Mathieu Amalric and Bernard Tavernier.
Polanski admitted in 1978 to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl. But after a judge said he would renege on a plea bargain, he fled the United States and has been a fugitive ever since.
