Tremor shakes Thailand, Myanmar
A strong earthquake shook northern Thailand and Myanmar yesterday evening, smashing windows, cracking walls and roads, and damaging Buddhist temples.
The airport in Chiang Rai, a Thai city near the epicenter of the magnitude 6.3 temblor, evacuated people from its terminal, where after display signs and pieces of the ceiling fell to the ground.
Severe shaking also was reported in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second-largest city, while people fled from office buildings in Myanmar’s largest city, Yangon. Minor tremors were noted in the Thai capital, Bangkok, though no casualties were reported in any of the incidents.
