Turkish flight makes emergency landing in Canada over false bomb threat
A TURKISH Airlines flight with 258 people on board made an emergency landing in Canada on Sunday due to a false bomb threat.
The plane, heading to Istanbul from New York, landed at Canada's Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Turkey's semi-official Anadolu Agency reported, quoting a statement released by local police.
"Our passengers have been successfully evacuated and taken to the airport terminal," said Ali Genc, an official from Turkish Airlines' press department.
"There are 244 passengers on the plane and 14 flight crew," he told Xinhua in an email.
He said the search was over and nothing was found, and the plane will return to Istanbul with its passengers.
An Air France flight from the United State to Paris also landed at Halifax following a bomb threat last week.
The threats came at a time when the whole Europe is on high alert in the aftermath of a spate of terror attacks in Paris on Nov. 13, in which at least 130 people were killed.
