Two dead in eight-vehicle Sydney road crash

TWO men were dead and four people including two children injured in a high impact eight-vehicle smash in Sydney on Monday morning.

Seven cars and a truck were involved in the accident at 11 a.m. local time near the intersection of Concord Road at Rhodes in Sydney's inner west.

An ambulance spokesman said a child and a 38-year-old man who were trapped in the wreckage were taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

A 40-year-old man and a child went to Ryde Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said they were investigating whether alcohol and speed were factors.

Police said debris was spread over a few hundred meters and the accident was "quite horrific".

"It was absolutely devastating ... it was obviously a high impact, which has left a large amount of debris and devastation."
