UN chief expresses deep sorrow for a 'brutal crime'
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday expressed his deep sorrow at the death of the 23-year old student gang-raped in New Delhi.
A UN spokesman said Ban had offered his sincerest condolences to her parents, family and friends, and utterly condemned the "brutal crime."
"Violence against women must never be accepted, never excused, never tolerated," the spokesman said.
The UN secretary-general urged the government of India to undertake reforms in order to deter such crimes in the future and bring their perpetrators to justice as well as strengthen support for rape victims.
