UN secretary-general to go to Haiti
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will travel to Haiti on Sunday to show his solidarity with the people of the earthquake-stricken country, the United Nations said yesterday.
Ban will assess the humanitaria aid effort and the scale of the disaster for himself, the world body said in a statement.
Ban met with Haitian staff at the United Nations yesterday to offer his condolences for the many lives lost in the quake.
The UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti, which lost at least 36 of its personnel in the disaster, is trying to provide some basic co-ordination of the international relief effort from an office near the airport at Port-au-Prince.
