US government shutdown averted

US House Speaker John Boehner said last night a deal to fund the government through the rest of the fiscal year with the White House and Democrats has been reached.

Boehner said he expects a vote on the long-term funding bill next week. He said the House will vote tonight to pass a stopgap bill in order to get the government through next Thursday.

The deal means an ugly government shutdown was averted at the 11th hour.
