US ready to defend itself
THE US says it will take steps to defend itself and its allies after North Korea's threat of a nuclear strike.
Top envoy for North Korea policy Glyn Davies said the US was working with South Korea to ensure it was ready for any threats that arise.
He was testifying to a Senate foreign relations panel yesterday, shortly after the UN Security Council approved tighter sanctions against Pyongyang for its latest nuclear test.
Democrat panel Chairman Robert Menendez said North Korea's "absurd" threat would be tantamount to suicide.
