Ukrainians start to vote in presidential election
UKRAINIANS headed to the polls at 8 am local time (0600 GMT) on Sunday morning in the country's first presidential election since the 2004 "Orange Revolution."
There are 18 candidates on the ballot, including incumbent President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and opposition leader Viktor Yanukovich, the former prime minister.
Some 36 million registered voters are to vote at 33,000 polling stations across the country and more than 3,000 international observers will monitor the election, according to the Ukrainian Central Election Commission.
Exit poll results are expected upon the closing of the polling stations at 8:00 pm local time (1800 GMT) and official results will be published on Jan. 27.
