University bus blast kills 11, injures 22 in Pakistan
AT least 11 people were killed and 22 others injured as a blast hit a university bus in Pakistan' s southwest city of Quetta this afternoon, police said.
Mir Zubair, City Central Police Officer of Quetta, said all the killed are students and the injured include university students and staff members.
According to police and local media reports, the blast took place at about 3:00 pm (local time) inside Bahadur Khan Women University in the Baruri area of the city when students and staff members were boarding the bus for going back home.
The bus was completely destroyed in the blast and a fire broke out following the explosion, eyewitnesses told local media.
Rescue team and police rushed to the site shortly after the blast.
All the dead and injured have been shifted to the local Bolan Medical Complex.
Emergency was declared at the hospital as many injured were rushed inside, said hospital sources.
Bomb disposal squad officers said that initial investigation showed it was a remote-controlled blast and the explosives were fixed inside the bus.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif issued a statement strongly condemning the bomb attack and ordered the hospital administration to provide the best medical treatment to the blast victims.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
