Venezuela refinery explosion kills 7, injures 48

At least seven people were killed and 48 others injured in a gas explosion at an oil refinery in western Venezuela early today, local media reported.

The situation at Amuay oil refinery has been put under control and there is no risk of further explosions, reports said.

Amuay refinery, with an initial capacity of processing some 650,000 barrels of oil per day, is Venezuela's largest oil refinery that is owned by Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA). It is located in the Paraguana Peninsula, 350 km from Caracas.
