Young Ambonese talent passes away after brain hemorrhage

GAYATRI Wailissa, a teenager from Ambon who ‘went international’ due to her talent in mastering tens of foreign languages, has passed away in Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Jakarta, on Thursday, as Global Indonesian Voices reported on Friday. Gayatri had previously undergone a four-day intensive treatment at the hospital.

According to the doctor, Gayatri, who was 17 at time of her death, was diagnosed with cerebral or brain hemorrhage. Her parents, Dedy Darwis Wailissa was in Ambon when contacted by the local media to confirm Gayatri’s passing.

“According to Doctor Agus, who was treating Gayatri, my daughter passed away due to a burst of blood vessel in the brain. Before her passing, she was treated for four days,” said Dedy as quoted by Kompas.com.

He further shared that before being brought to the Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Gayatri was complaining of a headache that she suffered following a sporting activities with her friends at the Suropati Park. Gayatri’s relative then brought her to the hospital for treatment.

“She was complaining of a headache after doing sports with her friends, before she was brought to the hospital,” said Dedy.

Gayatri’s body has been flown to Ambon, where she was buried on Friday. Deddy, despite of his loss, has admitted that he will sincerely go through this ordeal.

Gayatri Wailissa had represented Indonesia in an ASEAN level Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) in Thailand. In the forum, she was trusted to become an interpreter. Her skill in mastering multiple languages led her to be called the “Little Doctor” from Indonesia.

She mastered tens of languages, including English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Mandarin, Arabic, German, French, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Russian, Thai, and Tagalog.
