Border Force strike action to cause delays at airports

Two weeks of strike action is set to begin at Australia's international airports, cruise ship terminals and cargo facilities.

Immigration and Border Force staff have planned the rolling stoppages as part of a long-running dispute with the Federal Government over pay and conditions.

Community and Public Sector Union national secretary Nadine Flood said workers will walk off the job in 30-minute blocks, but they will not reveal where or when.

"These workers are trying to get government to take this seriously and give us someone to sit down with and resolve this longstanding mess," she said.

"Under Prime Minister Turnbull they haven't talked to us in a year."

Ms Flood described the stand-off as a "workplace war" started by former employment minister Eric Abetz.

"It's really got beyond a joke," he said.

Passengers departing on international flights have been told to arrive early and expect delays.

"We have contingency arrangements in place to minimise the impact of stoppages on business operations," Border Force said in a statement.

Staff were set to go on strike earlier this year, but postponed the industrial action in the wake of the Brussels terror attack.
