Prominent small business spokesman Nick Behrens has resigned his position as Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) advocacy manager and is believed to be planning a move into state politics for the LNP.
Party rules prevent prospective LNP candidates from speaking to the media, but the ABC understands Mr Behrens could run against Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace in the seat of Brisbane Central.
Mr Behrens took a more conciliatory tone with Labor governments than some previous CCIQ advocates, but disagreed with the Palaszczuk Government's anti-privatisation stance.
He also opposed industrial law changes passed in Parliament this morning, including the gazetting of Easter Sunday as a public holiday.
In a statement on its website, CCIQ chief executive Stephen Tait said Mr Behrens had been a strong advocate for small business.
“I would like to inform you all that Nick Behrens has tendered his resignation with CCIQ," Mr Tait said.
"As many of you would know, Nick has been a loyal employee and passionate advocate for our chamber for over nine years.
"I have personally enjoyed working with Nick and wish him well for his future endeavours."
Mr Tait said Mr Behrens would remain employed with CCIQ for the next three months and would assist the organisation as required.
