Clive Palmer loses bid to halt Queensland Nickel examination

Clive Palmer has failed in his latest bid to disrupt proceedings in his Federal Court examination over the collapse of the Queensland Nickel refinery.

Lawyers for the former federal MP and Queensland Nickel owner argued for an adjournment to allow for the High Court to hear Mr Palmer's application to prevent further examination by liquidators.

They have requested a stay of proceedings in the Federal Court until the High Court deals with the matter later this year.

But Federal Court registrar Murray Belcher ruled that Mr Palmer's examination would continue.

Arriving at court in Brisbane today, Mr Palmer said he was "very happy" about the High Court's decision to hear his application.

The former federal MP was arriving for a fourth day of questioning over the collapse of the north Queensland refinery in January.

Last month, Mr Palmer was rapped over the knuckles by Federal Court Justice Andrew Greenwood over a "salacious" affidavit filed in a bid to avoid questioning over the Queensland Nickel collapse.

Justice Greenwood ordered the affidavit be sealed, saying it made "irrelevant" assertions about inappropriate political conduct and bias.

This morning, Mr Palmer was questioned about whether he was involved in the decision to place Queensland Nickel into voluntary administration.

Mr Palmer replied: "Absolutely not. What rubbish. It wasn't my role to play."

Tom Sullivan QC also questioned Mr Palmer on whether he received any personal insolvency advice in December 2015.

Mr Palmer answered: "Not that I'm aware of."

The court was told mining company Glencore sent a letter to Queensland Nickel in December, questioning the financial stability of the business and raising concerns about insolvency.

Mr Palmer denied he had seen the letter.

"I don't know anything about this document. I've never seen this document as far as I can recall," he said.
