Ardent Leisure has reported a 63 per cent slump in revenue at its Dreamworld and Whitewater World theme parks on the Gold Coast since they reopened after a fatal accident.
Key points:
- Dreamworld and Whitewater world revenue down 63pc since parks reopened
- Some major rides at Dreamworld remain closed, due to reopen by end of month
- Parks were shut for one-and-a-half months after four people killed in Dreamworld ride malfunction
Four people were killed on the Thunder River Rapids ride at Dreamworld in late October, prompting both theme parks to be shut pending investigations and safety checks.
The parks reopened on Saturday December 10, but Ardent Leisure has reported a 63 per cent drop in revenue between then and the end of last year compared to the same period a year earlier.
The parks' operator said revenues of $3.66 million compared to $9.89 million at the same time last year.
Ardent said, while all of Whitewater World's rides are open, some of Dreamworld's signature rides remain closed, and this negatively affected attendance and revenues.
The company said the remaining rides that are closed, including the Tower of Terror II and Giant Drop, will be reopened by the end of the month.
Thunder River Rapids has been permanently closed.
Despite the tragedy, Ardent said guest sentiment had been "very positive" since reopening.
Ardent also gave an update on its US 10-pin-bowling-based Main Event Entertainment business, which posted a 35.2 per cent rise in revenues to $US102.1 million over the half year from July to December.
However, excluding new centre openings, revenues were slightly down on the same period a year earlier.
During the half, Ardent also completed the sale of its Goodlife Health Clubs division to a private equity firm.
Ardent Leisure shares were down 2.2 per cent to $2.19 by 11:00am (AEDT).
