Tourism WA boss Stephanie Buckland has resigned after six years in the job, becoming the fifth senior State Government executive to relinquish their position this year.
Ms Buckland started as Tourism WA chief executive officer in 2011.
The ABC understands she has resigned to take up a role in the aged care sector.
It comes after four other senior bureaucrats either retired or quit a critical role in the past several weeks.
The head of the delayed Perth Children's Hospital Tina Chinery quit her post to take a job in Queensland, and Department of Premier and Cabinet director-general Peter Conran and senior transport executive Reece Waldock will retire in July.
Meanwhile the man charged with delivering the controversial Perth Freight Link project, Main Roads managing director Steve Troughton, has also resigned to join the NSW Government.
Ms Buckland's move also comes just weeks after Premier Colin Barnett assumed the role of Tourism Minister, promising a renewed focus on the portfolio.
However Mr Barnett said he was not concerned by her decision, and wished her well.
"She's applied for another job and she got it. It's a career advancement for Stephanie," Mr Barnett said.
"She stayed for a good period of time. She goes out with a great record. The department will go out and seek a new director."
Mr Barnett said he did not see any connection between Ms Buckland's departure and the other recent resignations.
"There's no issue there. Stephanie just decided it was time to take her career in a different direction. She leaves with good will and I thanked her for the work she's done," he said.
"It'll just be a normal replacement process. We'll want to fill that as quickly as we can because it's an important role and tourism is developing in Western Australia very rapidly."
