Former Queensland Rail CEO Helen Gluer receives $160,000 payout

Former Queensland Rail CEO Helen Gluer was paid almost $160,000 when she stood down over Brisbane's train debacle.

Ms Gluer and the Queensland Rail (QR) board chairman Michael Klug resigned last week after it emerged not enough drivers had been trained to meet the increased service demand of the new Redcliffe Peninsula line.

QR implemented an interim timetable last week to meet morning and afternoon peaks, but even more cancellations were announced today due to a shortfall of four drivers and three guards.

Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe told Queensland Parliament Ms Gluer was paid the $158,214 in lieu of the three-month notice period the former CEO was required to give as part of her employment contract.

"This decision was made by Queensland Rail alone and was not referred to shareholder ministers for input or notice," Mr Hinchliffe said.

Ms Gluer was also paid her accrued leave entitlements.

As CEO, Ms Gluer was paid a yearly salary of $665,000 and a total package of more than $730, 000.

Mr Hnchliffe said Mr Klug's resignation was effective immediately.

"In line with formal governance arrangements for members on the Queensland Rail Board, Mr Klug received no payout upon his resignation," he said.

The State Opposition has called for Mr Hinchliffe to be sacked over the debacle.
