Greg Combet quits SA Automotive Transformation Taskforce

Former federal minister Greg Combet has quit as chairman of South Australia's Automotive Transformation Taskforce to work as a lobbyist for Victoria's defence industry.

Mr Combet, who held the position on the taskforce since late 2013, was on a salary of $160,000 a year since his appointment by the South Australian Government.

He said he was proud of what he had been able to achieve in the state by helping auto-suppliers to diversify their business models ahead of Holden's closure.

Mr Combet said family reasons were a large part of his decision to take up the new job.

"I used to be a defence materiel and defence contracting minister so I'm obviously interested in that industry but I've obviously got my three kids living in Melbourne so there's a mixture of professional and personal reasons for accepting the job in Victoria," Mr Combet said.

Automotive Transformation Minister Kyam Maher said the Government had already begun looking for Mr Combet's replacement.

"We don't have anyone in mind," he said.

"In the coming weeks we'll continue that search for someone to pick up what Greg started and I'm sure we'll find a high-quality person to continue his work."
