Any decision to allow independent supermarkets to sell liquor must be balanced with the Queensland Government's efforts to reduce pre-loading and alcohol-related violence, Attorney-General Yvette D'Ath says.
The Master Grocers Association and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry want independent supermarkets to be allowed to sell alcohol if major retailers get longer trading hours.
Ms D'Ath warned their submission to a review of shopping hours should be subject to the lock-out laws and other anti-violence measures.
"The Government will consider any findings that come out of that trading hours review," Ms D'Ath said.
"But we need to make sure that we are balancing that with our commitment to tackling alcohol-fuelled violence, that we have listened to the message out there about the problems with pre-loading.
"We did make a decision to reduce the hours that liquor could be sold from venues.
"So all of that would need to be taken into account."
The review is scheduled to give its recommendations to the Government next month.
