Landgate to shed jobs in favour of more automation

Saturday, 27 Feb 2016 06:47:55 | Laura Gartry

West Australian statutory authority Landgate has flagged job cuts due to increased automation, but will not be drawn on how many will go.

Landgate manages WA's land titles system, land valuation services and location information.

A spokeswoman said the authority was in the process of an extensive review designed to determine the most effective operating model, in particular the need to respond to technological change.

"Increased automation will mean that fewer employees are needed in certain roles," she said.

"We are now at the stage where employees are being consulted on proposed changes to our business.

"Until that formal consultation process is completed — approximately three weeks — no final decisions will be made."

Landgate said the process was being undertaken in accordance with public sector management guidelines.

When pressed on how many jobs cut were being considered, the authority would not comment.

"That's all the information we can release at this time," the spokeswoman said.

The Community and Public Sector Union has been contacted for comment.
