More Adelaide Holden workers to go, and Cruze production to end

Car maker Holden has outlined a plan to cut another 320 workers ahead of its manufacturing shutdown next year in northern Adelaide.

It will offer voluntary separation packages to take its Elizabeth workforce closer to 1,000.

The company also said it would end local production of its Cruze model in early October but would continue producing the Commodore.

"There is absolutely no change to Holden's plan to continue building Commodore at Elizabeth until the end of 2017," it said in a statement.

The federal Labor MP whose electorate takes in the Adelaide Holden plant, Nick Champion, said the latest job reductions were another blow in the winding down of an industry that was once a vital part of the northern suburbs.

"It's not unexpected, but these decisions are always devastating for workers," he said.

"It crystalises I guess what we already know, but it's still emotionally shocking and it's still the reality of losing the car industry hitting home, not only for those workers but for every South Australian."

Holden said part of its support efforts would include a jobs fair for its employees and for supply chain workers at its northern Adelaide plant next month.

"Companies that recognise the valuable, transferable skills of our Holden employees and automotive industry workers and have current job vacancies, or are looking to recruit in coming months, are taking part in the jobs fair," it said.
