Morrison and Bowen go head to head in treasurers' debate

Friday, 27 May 2016 10:00:42

The first Vote Compass results revealed Australians considered the economy to be the most important issue this election.

According to ABC election analyst Antony Green, "it's the thing that affects most people's lives."

So with the Coalition and the Opposition both spruiking 10-year economic plans that extend beyond the standard four-year budget, how viable are each of their proposals?

Treasurer Scott Morrison and his Opposition counterpart Chris Bowen will face off today in the first treasurers' debate of the campaign.

Both parties have been running hard on party finances, with Mr Morrison and Finance Minister Mathias Cormann accusing Labor of having a $67 billion "black hole" in its budget figures.

The pair have since come under fire for the figure, though the Shadow Treasurer has also faced questions on measures such as restoring the school kids bonus, which Labor backed away from yesterday.

The debate starts at 12:30pm and will be broadcast on ABC News 24. Or you can listen to the debate via ABC Regional Radio or News Radio around the country.

It will also be available via iView.
