Northwest Queenslanders are revelling in the news that triple j's One Night Stand will be held in the remote outback town of Mount Isa.

The free, all-ages show scheduled for Saturday April 22 is tipped to attract ten thousand music fans, many of whom will make the 900 kilometre journey from Australia's east coast.

The festival line-up features San Cisco, Tash Sultana, The Smith Street Band, Thundamentals and an unnamed triple j Unearthed competition winner.

Mount Isa City Council Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the national event will help to put the town on the map.

"The spotlight is on Mount Isa nationally now," she said.

"People wouldn't have considered us before and they're going to consider us now."

Mayor McCulloch said through accommodation, transport, food, beverages and entertainment, One Night Stand will also provide a welcome boost to Mount Isa.

"The economic stimulus that's going to come to the community [is] just fantastic," she said.

"And what an opportune time to come to Mount Isa. We've had great rainfall so we're looking a little bit lusher than what we were and it's going to be a party atmosphere to inject into the community."

Katter expresses excitement and a warning

Federal MP for Kennedy, Bob Katter, admitted while he is more of a Slim Dusty fan, he is very excited by the announcement.

"One Night Stand will be absolutely huge," Mr Katter said.

"I suppose the fact that they've heard that I'll be singing will probably bring thousands more than you'd normally have."

While Mr Katter has not yet been confirmed as part of the line-up, he said holding the festival in Mount Isa is a real benefit.

"I think that any undertakings like this, they enrich the town ... so it is it a great honour," he said.

While he is looking forward to the event, Mr Katter offered some advice for those making the journey out west.

"Young people have a lot of fun and a lot of fun leads to certain activities," said Mr Katter.

"So I hope that when they come out there they will remember their good, moral, Christian upbringings and not be carried away too much."
