Legal proceedings against federal MP Clive Palmer's North Queensland nickel refinery have been delayed at the request of the company's administrators.
The Queensland Department of Environment charged Queensland Nickel with two counts of breaching its environmental authority after it allegedly let a tailings dam overflow in 2014, spilling toxic waste.
The company will plead not guilty to the charges.
Queensland Nickel's future has been in limbo since it was placed into voluntary administration last month.
Last month, administrators FTI Consulting revealed Queensland Nickel was more than $100 million in debt and would need a massive cash injection to continue trading beyond April 30.
Today a solicitor for FTI Consulting told the District Court in Townsville it was unclear how long administrators will would be running the company.
The court was asked to delay the matter to give administrators time to determine the refinery's future before it returns to court.
The case will be heard again at the end of April.
Meanwhile, Fairfax Media is reporting that FTI Consulting was moving to sell a central Queensland cattle property owned by Mr Palmer's company QNI Metals.
The ABC has been told the property about 130 kilometres north of Rockhampton holds about 1,500 head of cattle.
FTI Consulting has been contacted for comment.
