A north Tasmanian abattoir which slashed its workforce three months ago has added 100 jobs as more livestock comes on the market.
JBS Longford laid off 111 workers in August due to shortages of lamb and cattle.
The meat processor recently hired another 100 people, including 40 who were recruited from north-west Tasmania.
The rest of the positions went to workers stood down in August.
JBS Southern Australia spokesman John Berry said the recruitment was possible because more livestock had become available.
"We've seen after a tough year supply coming forward, and that's allowed us to get back to production levels which can support the growth of the business and employ the hundred plus people," he said.
Sixty of the new jobs went to workers who were stood down in August.
"The 60 of those who were still able to be employed, unfortunately others have made decisions based upon their personal circumstances and moved on from the business," he said.
The company has flagged that more jobs could follow.
"The good news is with increased livestock numbers over the next few weeks we will be looking to recruit another 30 plus people at Longford," plant manager Vernon Piwari said.
In October, the Meatworkers Union complained of uncertainty among workers who were stood down in August when JBS began advertising jobs at the abattoir.
