Share market trade halted again amid technical difficulties

Monday, 19 Sep 2016 08:35:19 | Elysse Morgan

The Australian share market has seen trade halted again, as ongoing technical problems plague the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

At approximately 2:06pm (AEST) the ASX was placed in enquire mode, which means no trades were being accepted or cancelled.

The ASX has provided no update as to when trading will resume.

Earlier this morning, the opening of the Australian share market was delayed by more than an hour due to a technical fault.

The market opened at 11:40am, after the ASX fixed the fault.

On a normal trading day the market starts to open at 10:00am.

"The opening of the equities market has been delayed due to an issue with a component that allows ASX to manage individual stocks," an ASX spokesman had told the ABC.

The timing was fortunate in that it was expected to be a relatively quiet start to the week.

Futures trading pointed to a flat start, with the ASX SPI 200 down 0.1 per cent to 5,271.

The ASX suffered a outage in August last year, right in the middle of the hectic reporting season, which delayed earnings announcements by several companies.

The ASX explained at the time that there was a technical problem with its online eLodgement platform.

Traders have taken to social media to vent frustration.
