More than 120 workers at Port Adelaide-based shipbuilder ASC will lose their jobs by the end of the month.
Company spokesman Mark Lamarre told a Senate Estimates committee the staff being axed were mainly contractors.
The shipbuilder announced in August it would cut 175 jobs by the end of October from its Osborne construction facility in Adelaide.
On Tuesday it revealed another 121 workers will go, but noted it had employed 25 people with different skills in recent months to assist with its Australian Warfare Destroyers' sea trials.
"There are additions and deletions and reductions in labour based on the current demand for the program," Mr Lamarre said.
"Since we met last we have actually added labour on the shipbuilding side.
"We currently stand for a total of 1,772 across for shipbuilding employees, contractors and subcontractors which is a net add of 25."
Mr Lamarre said ASC's workforce had been reduced by 60 permanent employees, 50 contractors and 28 subcontractors this year.
When quizzed at Estimates he said the company was not shifting from full-time workers to contractors.
"We had a strategy initially of around 50-50 in terms of percentages of our trades workforce," he said.
"Our strategy has been for quite some time to have a portion of our workforce be subcontractors which are by nature brought on for short-term, sometimes long-term."
Mr Lamarre said the company was still working through the exact number of jobs to go over the next two years.
