A pharmacist has been arrested and charged by police after he allegedly spiked his female colleague's drinks at work at Kensington in Sydney's south-east.

Police said the 26-year-old woman, who is an assistant pharmacist, felt ill at her work and noticed her drink tasted "bitter" on a number of occasions during her shifts.

The woman went to Maroubra Police Station on Wednesday to report the allegations after suspecting she had been drugged.

Detectives investigated and said they found CCTV footage that allegedly showed the woman's 33-year-old male colleague pouring phenergan, a commonly used antihistamine, into the woman's drinks.

Police said the two co-workers met at their local church three years ago and the man offered her a job at the pharmacy.

Officers allege the man had been drugging the woman for a number of months.

The two had never been in a relationship but police alleged the man was "infatuated" with the woman.

He was arrested at his home in Maroubra on Thursday and was charged with using poison to injure or cause distress or pain, and tampering with evidence.

He has been granted bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court later this month.
