Telstra (ABC News: Nic MacBean)
Telstra says it is progressively restoring mobile services after an outage earlier impacted its mobile customers.
"We are progressively restoring mobile services and we anticipate returning to normal soon," the telco said in a statement.
"We believe the incident has impacted a proportion of traffic for voice and data across the country.
"The cause of the incident is yet to be determined but at this early stage we understand we have had a problem with the part of the network that allows phones to register and therefore make calls and use data."
Complaints from customers having trouble accessing their mobile network poured in from across the country on Thursday evening.
Tweets were sent from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and across Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
"We are aware of an issue affecting some of our mobile customers who are having difficulty making and receiving calls, and using data," Telstra said earlier in a statement.
"We are looking into the cause of this issue and apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.
"We are doing everything we can to restore services as soon as possible."
Suncorp Bank said on Twitter the outage was affecting the connectivity of some of its ATMs, EFTPOS terminals and phones.
In February Telstra mobile customers experienced a mass outage in multiple states, which the company said had been caused by an "embarrassing human error".
