Another H7N9 patient released from hospital

A 66-year-old man was discharged from the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center this afternoon after recovering from the H7N9 avian flu.

The city has reported 32 H7N9 cases by 5pm today. Eleven of them died; five were cured and 16 are still being treated in the hospital.

The retired man showed flu symptoms on March 31 and went to Shanghai No. 10 People's Hospital on April 2, where he was diagnosed with upper respiratory tract infection.

He went to the hospital again on April 4 as his condition didn't improve, and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. On April 6 he was tested positive for the H7N9 virus by the Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The man received antiviral therapies as well as treatment for his hypertension. Gradually his condition began to improve. He was tested H7N9 negative on Tuesday and all his flu symptoms were gone yesterday.

But the hospital said it will continue to check his health in follow-up visits.
